Philosophy,
a field of study which forms the basis of all scientific
and artistic fields, asks fundamental questions and
develops creative thinking by means of discussing
proposals to solutions to such questions, which is a
prerequisite for accurate and rational thinking.
What is expected from philosophy in today’s world is
to get ready for the future by using thinking models to
resolve the present conditions and to
analyse
the different approaches to the existence.
Department of philosophy, being nourished by the
interdisciplinary transference, particularly with the
psychology department, has undertaken a mission to enable
the students to develop their philosophical and linguistic
skills through elective and compulsory courses designed to
offer varied perspectives.
The program aims at raising awareness on subfields of
philosophy such as ontology, epistemology, philosophy of
science, political philosophy, ethics, aesthetics in
addition to other subjects like human rights and
globalisation among both philosophy students and students
in other areas of study.
Skills that graduate students gain such as reading,
writing, comprehension and consistent thinking will enable
them to be employed in multidisciplinary fields. These
fields are mainly teaching of philosophy, media, public
relations, tourism, advertising, script writing, editing,
translation and human resources. Furthermore, our graduate
students are likely to head towards various milieus such
as literature or non-governmental organisations.
Courses like English, literature and computing are given
throughout the four-year education program have been
designed to provide students with an advantage in their
working lives. A major number of graduates of philosophy
also tend to continue to be involved in academic life
through postgraduate studies.
