This
department aims at raising the open-minded specialist who
can share his knowledge in his respective fields and
communicate effectively. It is a well-known fact that
Psychology is an important behavioural science that
includes the cognitive processes. In this context, it is
apparent that, in the globalized world, the importance of
Psychology in starting an environment of dialogues that
comes out of cross-cultural relations can not be ignored.
Students in our department are equipped with knowledge
that Psychology comprises a main axis, but they are also
trained with the belief that Psychology is an important
interdisciplinary field of science obliged to look
at the human being in his concrete wholeness.
This concrete wholeness makes it necessary to understand
man from view points of different disciplines and to
support Psychology with other scientific activities.
Within this framework, one of the educational programs of
the European Union, the Leonardo Da Vinci Program is being
implemented.
Strengthening the observational side of a Psychologist
with an analytical and problem solving thinking ability is
a great factor in his success. Thus, we educate our
students as individuals who can think associatively.
In the process of teaching Psychology, with the
consciousness of the importance of its application, we
provide our students the opportunity to practice in
various settings, in all levels from school to home to
office to factory.
We also ensure our students become competent in
statistics, which is an essential course of Behavioural
Sciences. Our students take English courses for four years
during their undergraduate studies in addition to the
one-year compulsory preparatory English education. This
allows them to effectively follow pertinent literature in
the field. Social and cultural activities contributing to
the development of the students are customarily organized
within our department. Our goal is to educate
psychologists who can internalize their knowledge with
humanistic attitudes, being at peace within themselves,
and who can view the world from the viewpoint of others.
