Established on 9, July 1997 by İstanbul
Marmara Education Foundation (İMEV), the institution has a very broad scope
of education starting from the elementary level to university. Maltepe University
is the last chain of this reputable education institution started in 1991.
The first alumni graduated in June 2001.
Principles of Education
“Free
in thought, modern in science” is one of the most important principles
of Maltepe University. The aim of Maltepe University is to educate students
to be competitive with their peers all over the world, to be dynamic, rational,
creative, collaborative
intellectuals; to be individuals who are secular, respectful of the rules
of democracy and are followers of Atatürk’s reforms and principles.
Medium of Teaching
Turkish is deliberately
chosen as the medium of teaching, unlike many other private universities in
Turkey, with the belief that an individual can best learn and perform in the
mother tongue. However, having the awareness that English is indispensable
in the international scientific arena, a solid English teaching program is
included. Those students who are not exempt in the proficiency exam of the
English Language Department, enroll in the two semester intensive English
Prep. Program. All students take compulsory English courses during their undergraduate
education.
Academic Staff
Maltepe
University has a renowned academic staff
highly knowledgeable, specialized in their
domains and experienced in teaching and
management. As of 2003 academic year, the
university holds 300 teaching staff of which
205 are full time.
