Faculty of Law

Introduction

The Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree at the Maltepe University, Faculty of Law which aims to acquire skills of law science with qualified lawyers at national and international level. In order to achieve this goal, the education at the Faculty is not only focused on the theoretical perspectives of the law, but it also endeavours an importance to the legal practice. The Faculty of Law, founded in 1997, had its first graduates at the end of the academic year of 2000-2001 and it continues to grow and evolve in a dynamic way.   The curriculum of the Undergraduate Programme of the Faculty has been structured in parallel with the traditional curriculum of the national state universities and especially the universities of the UK, USA and Continental Europe. While the framework of this curriculum consists of the lectures on theory and workshops on the practice, there are also many other elective courses added to this curriculum in accordance with the newly developing areas of law. In this way, our students following the undergraduate programme are educated in a way which first of all makes them a “jurist” in the traditional sense. In addition to that, they also become an “individual” who has been well-informed on the contemporary developments in the fields of law and who has an enquiring and critical attitude to law having the intellectual capacity to make interpretations in accordance with the changing circumstances. Our curriculum, which offers theory and practice together, has adopted the principle of training effective lawyers not only in the national field but also in the international field. With this in mind, our curriculum includes a curriculum suitable for both the classical fields and subjects and the legal agenda and subjects of the modern world, in accordance with the development of science and technology. Thirty percent of the currently continuing curriculum is composed of English language law lessons, and it was decided to transform the language of our faculty into Turkish in the 2020-2021 academic year. Our graduates, who have successfully completed their undergraduate education, have the opportunity to work in Ministries, banks, national and international non-governmental organizations as well as professions such as lawyer, mediation, judge, prosecutor's office, notary public who can be executed only by people with a bachelor degree of law. The fact that our students have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters with ERASMUS programs within the framework of bilateral agreements signed by our University and Faculty also increases their opportunities to find a job especially in the international arena. Our faculty, which offers a wide range of competence and a field of study with its rich elective courses, organizes periodic scientific meetings and hosts them so that they can contact our students with all local and international professional networks and professional scientific and practical agenda as early as possible.
