Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afif Sıddıki
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afif Sıddıki was born in Ankara in 1973. After obtaining the bachelor's degree from the Physics Engineering at the Istanbul Technical University and Master's Degree from the Department of Physics at the University of Bilkent, he worked as Research Assistant at the Department of Physics of Middle East Technical University for a year. He was granted the PhD degree by the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Würzburg University in 2001 while working as research assistant in the Prof. Dr. Klaus von Klitzing's group, who was awarded Nobel Physics Prize in 1985. He returned to Turkey and took office as the Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics of the Mugla University in 2008 after carrying out his postdoctoral studies (Asst. Prof.) with Prof. Dr. Jan von Delft (Theoretical physics) and Prof. Dr. Jörg Kotthaus (experimental physics). He was invited as "Visiting Professor" to Harvard University in 2010. He was granted the title of Associate Professor by the Council of Higher Education of Turkey. He moved to Istanbul as the scientific project coordinator of the Quantum Technologies Laboratory to be established at the Istanbul University in the following year. After getting invited to Ludwig-Maximilians University with the purpose of carrying out experiments on Solid-State Physics and working there for a year, he was assigned to the Division of Solid-State Physics of the Department of Physics at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2014. Upon the passing of his mother in 2017, he left the University and moved to his beloved Akyaka. He has around 80 scientific articles, over 400 references and around 300 speeches with an invitation or with a participation. Moreover, Afif Sıddıki has a great admiration for art, plays guitar and keyboard, and has around 40 compositions. He also gives seminars on the foundations of quantum physics in primary and high school in order to spread science and art among the Turkish society. He continues to provide this service to various companies and institutions in the Engineering and Consultancy company he founded in 2017.
