International Communication Students Congress (ICSC) 2017 "Communication Matters: Globalization, Mobility and Integration" has ended. Maltepe University would like to thank the keynote speaker Daniel Lucas (Spain); workshop facilitators Nafise Mothlaq (Iran) and Salvatore Scifo (United Kingdom); 25 participants from 18 different countries and the students of Communication Faculty who attended and helped delivering a truly international event.

About the ICSC 2017 Congress Program:

The Congress was opened by welcoming addresses of the ICSC 2017 President and 4thyear Public Relations and Publicity (English) student Vedat Namazcı. The keynote speech was delivered by Daniel Lucas, General Manager of Lilly Turkey. Two workshop have been facilitated by Nafise Mothlaq, Iranian visual journalist and communication lecturer and Salvatore Scifo, senior lecturer from Bournemouth University, UK. Also, Nafise Mothlaq’s photographs taken in the hope investment camp, in Afghanistan has taken place at the congress venue. The congress has started by a panel focusing the theme “Global village through our cultures”. Four sessions were then held in the Istanbul Hall from 10:30 to 17:15

International Communication Students Congress (ICSC) 2016 "Communication, Technology and Creativity" has ended. Maltepe University would like to thank 25 participants from 14 different countries for contributing to the success of the congress as well as to the students of Communication Faculty who attended and helped to make the congress such a huge success!

The third edition of the International Communication Students Congress (ICSC), organized by the students of the Faculty of Communication, took place at the Marma Congress Centre on 19 and 20 March 2015.

This year’s edition was themed “Media, Culture and Digitalization” and included 30 students coming 14 different countries as Algeria, Colombia, Cyprus, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, India, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

The Faculty of Communication students organizing committee work was supervised the MUISC General Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Betül Çotuksöken, and the Faculty ICSC Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Salvatore Scifo.

Topics discussed during the conference included the use of social media, corporate communication, public perception, cinema and literature, journalism, social movements, visual culture, technology and society, international communication, media and representation, photography, political communication and nation branding.


The Congress was opened by welcoming addresses of the Vice Rector of Maltepe University, and Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Belma Akşit, and the ICSC 2015 President and 4thyear Public Relations and Publicity (English) student Tuncel Öztek. The keynote speech of this year, titled “Get Connected. Communication in a Network” was delivered by Mrs. Monique Abbenbroek, Senior Lecturer in Public Relations and Communication at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

The two parallel sessions were then held in the Akdeniz and Istanbul halls from 10:15 to 17:15. The lunch was served in the Hotel’s Pool Restaurant at 13:15 and the Gala Dinner took also place at Pool Restaurant at 20:00. During the Gala Dinner all the student presenters received their certificate of participation to the ICSC 2015 and enjoyed the performance of two music group of Maltepe University’s Music Student Club.  On the second day the local organizing team took the international guests to a guided tour of Istanbul’s Old City through the areas of Sultanahmet, Beyazıt and Eminönü. In the evening the participants were also given a brief tour of the Bagdat Street area on the Asian side of the city.

The second edition of the International Communication Students Congress (ICSC), organized by the students of the Faculty of Communication, was themed “Media, Interactivity and Participation” and included 60 students coming 25 different countries as Bangladesh, Belgium, China, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Netherlands, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Republic of Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Topics discussed during the conference included the use of traditional, digital and social media by young people, questions of identity and representation in the media, studies of media effects on publics, the ethical issues that concern media practices, the interaction between media and politics, recent developments in advertising, marketing and online gaming, as well as the influence of globalization on media and culture.

The keynote speech of this year, titled “Are thousand pictures worth a single word?” was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ilija Tomanic Trivundza from the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and also Vice President of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA).

ICSC 2013

In 2013 the International Communication Students Congress (ICSC) themed “Media, Youth and their Future”, organized by the students of the Faculty of Communications at Maltepe University, was held on 28-29 March at the Marma Congress Centre.

25 Students from 12 different countries (Brazil, Hungary, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Lithuania, Pakistan, South Korea, Spain, United States, and Turkey)  attended the congress, which was supervised by the Maltepe University International Student Congress (MUISC) General Congress Coordinator  Prof. Dr. Betül  Çotuksöken and Assist. Prof. Dr. Selva Ersöz and Assist. Prof. Aygül Ernek Alan.

The opening session included speeches from the Congress President Esra Seçkin Serindereli and Prof. Dr. Selahattin Yıldız, where the keynote speech was delivered by Assist.Prof.Dr.Salvatore Scifo.

The presentations, held in the İstanbul Hall, took place in 5 sessions between 9.45 and 17.30 and were concluded by the closing remarks of the Turkish journalist Nail Güreli. In the evening, the attendants were offered a tour of the highlights of the Asian side of the city, Bagdad Street.

On the second day, the participants had the possibility to enjoy a guided cultural tour of the Old City, including visits to the Santa Sofia Museum, the Blue Mosque, the Eminonü Mosque the Spice Bazaar, Cemberlitaş and the areas of Sultanahmet, Sirkecı and Eminönü.

In the evening, the main restaurant hall of the Marma Congress Centre hosted the Gala Dinner, where all the participants where given the certificate of attendance.
