Introduction

Faculty of Architecture and Design began education and training in Maltepe University in 1997 as the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Faculty of Architecture and Design become independent thereafter, with Nautical Design Department, Interior Architecture Department and Architecture Department.

The aim of the Faculty of Architecture and Design; is to educate individuals who have predictive, universal values, think analytically, give priority to people and society, design spaces with creative and innovative products, also observe nature, develop aesthetic sensitivity, apply computer and information technologies to design processes, and have professional responsibilities and self-confidence. The faculty has competent academic staff in order to maintain a modern education and a technological infrastructure for the students to develop their technical knowledge and skills during the education period.

Our faculty, which has an educational approach focused on learning by doing and practicing, has computer laboratories, design studios containing current software applications, and a construction workshop called 'Hangar' which is unique in our country. In the process of education and training, theoretical courses, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, conferences, research studies, and study trips are considered as components of education.

There are two different diploma programs in Turkish and English. In principle, 'designing feasible buildings' is the Department's leading mission. Our aim is not only in the design process, but also in every stage of the architectural activity to contribute to the training of professionals who can be effective and competent.

The primary objective of the Department of Interior Architecture is to provide students the ability to design interior and exterior accessories according to user needs and functions within the architectural structure and to have the knowledge to apply their designs using current technological facilities.

Founded in 2009, Nautical Design Department is the first and only in Turkey, and is one of two undergraduate programs in the world. It aims to educate designers and scientists at national and international level who are able to design a wide range of boats, especially yachts.

In our faculty, students are encouraged to participate in national and international competitions organized by various organizations. There are various prizes won by our students in these competitions.

Our faculty has bilateral agreements with various universities within the scope of Erasmus exchange programs.
