Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem YAZICI

Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Yazıcı was born in Istanbul. In 1995, she graduated from the Anatolian High School of Üsküdar. In 2000, she graduated from Boğaziçi (Bosphorous) University by receiving her BA degree in Philosophy. She received her MA degree also at Boğaziçi University, in the Department of Philosophy, where she wrote her MA thesis on the relation between Socratic daimon and wisdom. Afterwords, she went to the University of Memphis, in the US, to do her Ph.D. in philosophy. Here, she wrote her dissertation on Heidegger’s ideas of work of art and historical being.

She took her Doctoral Comprehensive Language Exams in German and French and graduated from the University of Memphis in 2010. During her Ph.D., she also received a graduate certificate degree in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Memphis by completing a coursework on gender. During her Ph.D. years, she worked both as a TA (2005-2008) for courses like Bio-ethics, Existentialism, History of Philosophy and as an Instructor (2008-2010) where she designed and taught her own courses in History of Philosophy, Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, and Gender Studies in Memphis. Between the years of 2010 and 2016 she took her first academic position as Assist. Prof. at Koç University, Istanbul, in the Department of Philosophy. At Koç, she taught various courses in the areas of Ethics, Political Philosophy, Gender, Ancient Greek Philosophy. In 2014-2015, she also worked as the Department Representative. As of 2016-2017, she took a new position of Assist. Prof. at Üsküdar University, Istanbul, in the Department of Philosophy. She became an Associated Professor here in 2018. Currently, she is teaching at Üsküdar University various courses such as Philosophy of History, Contemporary Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy, Ethics, Postmodernism, and Critical Thinking. Her research areas cover mostly topics in Gender, Political Philosophy, and the 20th Century European Philosophy. She has several conference activities and publications in these areas in journals like felsefelogos and Cogito, as well as several articles in books on edited on gender in Turkish.

 

Assist. Prof. Sinan ODABAŞI

Sinan Odabaşı received his BA in Law from Marmara University, and his LLM in Human Rights Law and PhD in Public Law from Istanbul Bilgi University. In past, he worked as a guide, translator, moderator and coordinator at film and music festivals held in Istanbul. He also worked as a sports broadcaster for a while and wrote articles on the cultural, political and economic contexts of sports in various media outlets. 

Odabaşı received a publication award from Istanbul Bilgi University Press for his PhD dissertation, titled “Sürdürülebilirlik Döneminde Gelişme Hakkı”, in which he explored the potential of the Right to Development against the backdrop of the sustainable development debate and the Global South-Global North contradictions therein, to be published in 2022. Some of his other research interests include but not limited to sustainable development and international law, human rights and development, third world approaches to international law, and international legal developments in Interwar Years. 

Odabaşı is one of the co-editors of a book on the Constitution of Bolivia (Bolivya Anayasası: Hukuk, Demokrasi, Özerklik) and authored several articles on abovementioned fields of interests. He had translated Sergei Eisenstein (Mike O’ Mahony), the biography of the filmmaker, into Turkish.  As of 2022, Odabaşı is an assistant professor of Public International Law at Altınbaş University, Istanbul.
