Justice

About the Programme

Justice is a concept which is difficult to define. This is probably because the understanding of justice inevitably varies from one person to another. As an old saying from Corpus Iuris Civilis (Roman Law) concisely puts it ‘Justice is the constant and perpetual desire to give to each one that to which he is entitled’. (Iustitia est contans et perpetua voluntas ius suum cique tribuens)

Over the centuries the running of Judiciary has always been one of the crucial and non-transferable functions of the state. Indeed, the fact that how and by which people the justice is to be done is as important as the definition of justice. Judges whose sole duty is to ensure that the justice is done are always in need of assistance of professional people who are responsible for paperwork and administration of the courts. In the unlikely event of non-existence of administrative assistance, trials cannot be held, witnesses cannot be called, evidences cannot be presented and so on. Even a landmark judgement won after big efforts of lawyers cannot be written and recorded.

Nowadays, judicial services are carried out by professionals who are trained for administrative and clerical positions they hold within the courts. It has to be so if we are to expect to see that justice is done swiftly and smoothly. Well-trained legal professionals undoubtedly facilitate the running of judiciary.

The department of Justice began to accept students in 2012. This program is providing students with both theoretical knowledge and professional skills which will be essential in legal practice, in particular in the running of the Judiciary. Therefore, our graduates are candidates for difficult tasks carried out by the Judicial Organisations.

Students undertaking this course of study may be employed by the civil and criminal departments of the judicial system, criminal execution institutions or law firms as paralegals.

The medium of teaching is Turkish.
