SECTION ONE

Purpose, Scope, Mission, Vision and Definitions

 

Purpose and Scope

ARTICLE 1– (1) This directive has been prepared in order to regulate the work, procedures and principles regarding the establishment, duties, management and relationship of the sustainability office, which is implemented within the scope of combating climate change in higher education institutions, and the principles for the monitoring and evaluation of the Sustainability Office.

 

Mission and Vision

ARTICLE 2 – (1) Our mission is to integrate sustainability into management bodies, research activities and education as a fundamental principle in line with the purpose of Maltepe University Sustainability Office, which was established under the Rectorate of Maltepe University.

 

(2) Our vision is to create a sense of responsibility by integrating sustainability values in all units of Maltepe University in order to serve as a local and global model.

 

Definitions

 

ARTICLE 3 – (1) In this directive; It expresses.

SECTION TWO

Objectives and Fields of Activity of the Sustainability Office

 

Objectives of the Sustainability Office

ARTICLE 4 – (1) To raise awareness of environmental, economic and social sustainability among the academic and administrative staff of the university, as well as in all segments of the society, to carry out activities that will serve to raise awareness of sustainability, its adoption and its reflection in practice,

(2) To contribute to the strengthening of Turkey's scientific, technological and cultural infrastructure by making use of the knowledge and experience available at the University on sustainability-related issues, and to contribute to the strengthening of Turkey's scientific, technological and cultural infrastructure by producing technology, developing goods and services,

(3) Within the scope of the relevant legislation provisions; To provide education and training to public institutions and organizations and stakeholders and students in the private sector, to open and carry out certificate programs, to provide consultancy services, to provide necessary coordination to develop R&D projects,

(4) To carry out social responsibility projects related to sustainability within the framework of the university's possibilities, vision, strategies and objectives,

(5) To take part in national and international projects related to sustainability, to increase cooperation with relevant organizations, to make suggestions to decision-makers on the subject,

(6) To coordinate the execution of energy-oriented studies in sustainability with the active follow-up of the University Energy Management Unit Directive.

 

Fields of Activity of the Sustainability Office

ARTICLE 5 – (1) To organize, carry out and ensure the execution of short and/or long-term national and/or international training activities on sustainability-related issues, with the contribution of experts, and to support existing training programs, to open and continue certificate programs,

 

(2) To assist studies on sustainability-related issues and coordination between relevant organizations, to provide mutual information and experience sharing among all kinds of institutions, organizations, individuals and individuals related to sustainability,

(3) To support the systematization of internal operations with sustainability reports and similar outputs,

(4) To support the development of new projects within the scope of sustainability issues,

(5) To raise awareness about sustainability within and outside the university,

(6) To develop joint projects by working in coordination with the University Environment and Energy Technologies Application and Research Center,

(7) To provide the necessary coordination with the Rectorate units in order to design, build and operate a campus environment that will minimize the ecological footprint,

(8) To provide the necessary coordination in order to be a stakeholder of national/international projects called for in the topics of sustainability, climate change and energy,

(9) Integrating sustainability goals into our education and research activities,

(10) To ensure coordination between the relevant units in the execution of sustainable campus studies at the university by integrating environmental management into daily operations, reducing energy consumption and related carbon emissions at the university, minimizing our water use, implementing waste reduction strategies and ensuring a high recycling rate,

(11) To provide the necessary coordination to protect and develop the biological diversity of the university land,

(12) To provide the necessary coordination for the University to produce joint projects with other research and application centers in order to raise awareness on issues related to sustainability.

 

SECTION THREE

Duties of the Executive Bodies, Coordinator and Advisory Board

of the Sustainability Office

 

Governing Bodies of the Sustainability Office

ARTICLE 6 – (1) The coordinator is appointed for two years, upon the appointment of the Rector, from among the faculty members of the University who have received training or work on sustainability issues such as the environment, energy, and climate change. The coordinator whose term has expired can be reassigned.

(2) The Coordinator appoints one of the members of the Advisory Board to represent her/him when she/he is not at her/his place.

(3) In case the Coordinator resigns or has not been on duty for more than six months, a new Coordinator is appointed with the same procedure.

(4) Advisory Board; It consists of individuals who are assigned with the recommendation of the Coordinator and the approval of the Rector from among the experienced academic staff working in the faculties and departments of the university, who are engaged in research, application and / or production in the fields of sustainability activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Coordinator

ARTICLE 7 – (1) Representing the Sustainability Office,

(2) To ensure that the work of the office is carried out and developed regularly,

(3) To provide coordination between the Rectorate and the relevant units of the University on sustainability activities,

(4) To ensure the coordination of the projects and activities required to achieve a structure compatible with the sustainability goals in accordance with the University's Strategic Plan.

(5) The coordinator is directly responsible to the Rector for the necessary coordination for the announcement of the sustainability-related education, research and social benefit activities to be carried out by the University at the national and international level on appropriate platforms.

 

Duties of the Advisory Board

ARTICLE 8 – (1) The main duties of the advisory board are to transfer scientific and administrative knowledge and experience to the work of the Office and to make suggestions about the activities,

(2) To evaluate the scientific and administrative activity plans and make suggestions to the Senate,

(3) To prepare annual activity reports and submit them to the Senate.

 

 

SECTION FOUR

Last Provisions

 

ARTICLE 9 – (1) In cases where there is no provision in this directive, the provisions of the relevant legislation and Senate Decisions are applied.

ARTICLE 10 – (1) The provisions of this Directive enter the house as soon as it is approved by the Maltepe University Senate.

ARTICLE 11 – (1) The provisions of this directive are executed by the Rector of Maltepe University.
