Maltepe University Language Teaching Application and Research Center (TÖMER) is an education center that has adopted the teaching of the requested languages, especially teaching Turkish to foreigners or teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Tömer, established in 1998 within the Maltepe University Continuing Education Center upon the dissolution of the Unit for Teaching Turkish to Foreigners, which was established to teach Turkish to foreign students, serves the development and popularization of Turkish.
The establishment objective of Maltepe University TÖMER is to teach Turkish to foreigners on the basis of four basic language skills (reading, listening, speaking and understanding) in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, to promote Turkish culture and literature abroad by attaching importance to the understanding of being an international education institution as well as language teaching carried out in the form of levels, to organize activities related to the Turkish language and culture, to make agreements and sign protocols with educational institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in accordance with the objectives of the establishment.
