TÜBİTAK Success of Our Student and Research Assistant from the Faculty of Architecture and Design

The project titled "Adaptability of Ottoman Handicrafts Motifs to Contemporary Interior Spaces: Local Production and Design Model," prepared under the academic supervision of Research Assistant Serenay ULUSOY (Faculty Member of our University's Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Interior Architecture) and led by Interior Architecture student Gülin HALIBRIAM HALIL, has been awarded support under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program.

Project Team

  • Academic Advisor: Res. Asst. Serenay ULUSOY

  • Project Leader: Gülin HALIBRIAM HALIL

Purpose of the Project

The aim of the project is to scientifically examine the applicability of Ottoman handicraft motifs in contemporary interior design, revealing their aesthetic, cultural, and production potential to develop an applicable approach in local design and production processes. In this regard, the study will systematically address the transfer of cultural heritage elements into current design practices, thereby creating a holistic evaluation model that can serve as a guide for both designers and local producers.

Within the scope of the project, reinterpreting traditional motifs will contribute to a sustainable, local, and culturally grounded design approach. It aims to generate outcomes that will strengthen the authentic identity of interior design in Turkey. Thus, the project will make it possible to determine the contemporary usage criteria of motifs, support local product development processes, and contribute to the widespread adoption of a design concept based on cultural heritage within the sector.

As our university, we are delighted by this achievement, which contributes to the development of scientific research culture. We congratulate our academic advisor and project leader and wish them continued success in their endeavors.
