Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students, apart from previously taken exams, or their studies, are subject to one final examination.

Each semester, the students take ​​at least one midterm exam. Apart from the exams, quizzes can be held without specifying the date.

The evaluation criteria to be taken into account (mid-term exam, homework, final exam, etc.) and their ratios are indicated in the course curriculum and syllabus distributed to students and announced on the website at the beginning of the semester. Final examinations are held on the dates announced by the university in the specified place and time. Students' semester final grades are given by the lecturers by taking mid-term and final exam results, semester studies and attendence into account. The courses that won’t hold a mid-term and/or final exam are determined by the Department Heads or School Managers. This information is shared with the Student Affairs’ Office and success in those courses is assessed according to the studies that students carry out during the semester.

The semester course grades, together with the evaluation criteria of success are delivered by our teaching staff to the Student Affairs’.

GRADING PRINCIPLES AND CONDITIONS OF SUCCESS

For Students Who Enrolled in 2009 or Before   (Regulation 1 - Y1):

When determining a student's grade in a course, the level of success in studies during the course, grade of the year/semester, the average of the midterm grades and the course final grades are evaluated together at the end of the semester. If the related faculty member considers it appropriate, homework, laboratory and similar studies, and announced quizzes can be considered as a midterm or as an extra midterm.  However, to be successful in a course, students must get a grade of at least 50 out of 100 from the semester exam, end of the academic year exam or make-up exam (for letters it is CC). The effect of midterm exam grade on the course grade is 40%, the effect of Final/ Make-up exam on the course grade is 60%. The assessments of common mandatory courses such as Turkish Language and Literature, Arts, Sports, Music, are shown in the form of "Success" or "Failure".

For Students Who Enrolled in 2010 or Later (Regulation 2-Y2):

The faculty members use the OIS relative success assessment methodology according to the the31st 32nd and 33rd articles of the TC Maltepe University Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree Teaching, Training and Testing Regulation to evaluate each student enrolled in their courses and one of the course grades is given from the table given below as the course grade of students.

AA, BA, BB, CB and CC show that students succeeded in passing the course; DC and the DD show that students succeeded in passing the course if the conditions of success which are based on average weighted grade specified in the regulation are met. F shows failure.

In the following table, , the  semester course grade points and the coefficients of the course grade letters are given for the students subject to the regulations of the Y1 and Y2.

Course   Repetition

For Students Who Enrolled in 2009 or Before (Y1)

If the student has failed to fulfill a course requirement for the minimum attendance or if a student does not receive a minimum of 50 points from the final exam, and if the average course score is less than 50 points, the student must repeat the course.

For Students Who Enrolled in 2010 or After (Y2):

Students who have failed a course because of getting a failure (F) or absenteeism, and the students who have taken a course but dropped it later,  have to take the course in the semester it is opened and must fulfill the conditions of attendance.

Repetition of the Semester

For Students Who Enrolled in 2010 or After (Y2):

Starting from the end of the second semester, students’ achievements are followed according to the General Point Average GPA at the end of each semester. Students who do not have a score of 1.80 (GPA) repeat the semester. These students repeat the courses that they have passed before with a grade lower than CC.

Successful Students

Students who get a General Point Average of a minimum of 2.00 at the end of a semester are considered as “Successful”. The students who get a General Point Average between 3.00 and 3.49 by taking the minimum regular course load are considered as “Honour Students”. Students who get a general point average between 3.50 and 4.00 are considered as “High Honour Students”.

Course   Repetition

For Students Who Enrolled in 2009 or Before (Y1)
