M.A. Program with thesis

 

İHA 500-Concept and Kinds of Human Rights  (Compulsory Course)

The course will examine the concept and the classifications of human rights, as well as the conceptual content of selected human rights and freedoms, and will discuss the specificity of these concepts as criteria for human rights.

İHA 502- Epistemological Foundations of Human Rights

The course will discuss the specificities of human rights as principles, the ways of the deduction of human rights and other epistemological problems related to human rights.

İHA 503-The Problem of Evaluation from the Viewpoint of Human Rights (Compulsory Course)

The course will inquire into and discuss the problem of application, to particular situations, of human rights as fundamental principles of establishing social relations and of organizing the State.

İHA 504-Ethics and Human Rights (Compulsory Course)

The course will deal with problems of ethics as a field of philosophy and, on the basis of these problems, will discuss the ethical aspects of human rights.

İHA 505-Anthropological Foundations of Human Rights (Compulsory Course)

The course will focus on the question how a teacher, by selecting examples from human achievements which are the common heritage of humanity, can develop teaching material to be used for the objective of helping the development in the student of the consciousness of being a human being. 

İHA 509-Enlightenment and Human Rights

The course, taking Kant’s definition of Enlightenment as point of departure, will examine the specificity of the ideas produced by the philosophy of Enlightenment and will discuss their impact on public life and their contribution to the development of the idea of human rights.

İHA 511-Human Rights in Turkey

The course will focus on the efforts to protect human rights in Turkey since the establishment of the Republic and will discuss the relationship of Ataturk’s revolution and of its principles with human rights, as well as some other developments in this respect since 1990.

İHA 512-Citizenship, its Rights and Responsibilities

The course will examine the concepts of citizen and civic rights in their various dimensions and historical background, and will discuss the specificity of the way of looking at human affairs, developed by the consciousness of being a citizen and the relationship of this way of looking with the protection of human rights. 

İHA 513-Human Rights Education

Starting from the acceptance that the ultimate goal of human rights education is to prevent human rights violations, the course will discuss, on the basis of examples, contents and methods of human rights education which promises to help the trainees acquire the sincere will to protect human rights and to equip them with the necessary knowledge for this purpose. Exercises will follow. 

İHA 514-The Protection of Human Rights

The course will deal with different ways of protecting human rights and discuss problems stemming from the individual, his or her culture and education or other causes, as well as with ways of overcoming such problems.

İHA 515-Human Rights Problems I

The course will discuss theoretical human rights problems, to be selected by the instructor according to the specificity of the group of trainees.

İHA 516-Human Rights, Law and the State

The course will discuss human rights as premises in the deduction of law and as fundamental principles in the constitution of the State.

İHA 517- Media and Human Rights

The course will examine the function of media in protecting human rights and will discuss the human rights violations committed by media through their programmes and advertisements.

İHA 518-Instruments and Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights

The course will introduce the main instruments and mechanisms for the protection of human rights developed by various international or regional organizations, and will discuss problems in the implementation of the rights included in these instruments. 

İHA 519 Humanitarian Law and Human Rights

The course will focus on humanitarian law and discuss the relevant international instruments taking into consideration the developments related to human rights and the changes in conducting a war since the Second World War and particularly in our times.

İHA 520-Development of the Idea of Democracy and Human Rights

The course will examine the main stages in the development of the idea of democracy from the antiquity to our day and will discuss problems faced with in the protection of human rights in present day democratic governments.

İHA 522-Human Rights Problems II

The course will discuss problems faced with in the implementation of human rights, to be selected by the instructor according to the specificity of the group of trainees.

İHA 524- International Developments Related to Human Rights

The course will focus on a problem of debate selected from the national or international agenda, will inquire into its theoretical background and discuss conclusions to be reached by looking at the problems from such a point of departure.

İHA 559-Research Methods (Compulsory Course)

The course will focus on the specificities of interdisciplinary research and discuss, on the ground of examples, the place and contribution of different areas of knowledge in studying contemporary problems.

İHA 569-Master's Seminar (Compulsory Course)

The course will focus on a problem or on problems that the participants feel the need to deal with for their further development.

İHA 591-Master's Theses I (Compulsory Course)

In this course the students work with their advisors and prepare their theses.

İHA 592-Master's Theses II (Compulsory Course)
