Part Two: Human Dignity, Whose Dignity?

The aim of this second part of the series is to shed light on the concept of dignity, highlighting its distinction from concepts such as honor, and pride, to show how it relates to human rights, and to emphasize that we protect our human dignity not by what happens to us, but by what we do. In the program hosted by M. Onur Yılmaz, Ioanna Kuçuradi and Sevgi İyi discuss the concept of human dignity; they relate their thoughts to the incident of prisoners being left naked against a wall in Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq, an incident where prisoners were left naked against a wall, the ordinary but heroic act of a man who saved the lives of four people who were drowning, scenes from the film “The Lives of Others,” and the words of two people who expressed regret for their actions during the Fatsa Trial before and after the September 12, 1980 period at Mamak Prison.
