SECTION ONE
Purpose, Scope, Basis and Definitions
Purpose
ARTICLE 1- (1) The purpose of this directive is to regulate the procedures and principles regarding the aims, fields of activity, governing bodies, duties of the governing bodies, and working methods of the Cerebral Palsy Academic Research Unit, established under the Maltepe University Rectorate based on the cooperation protocol with the Turkish Foundation for Spastic Children.
Scope
ARTICLE 2- (1) This directive covers the provisions regarding the aims, governing bodies, duties of the governing bodies, and working methods of the Cerebral Palsy Academic Research Unit.
Basis
ARTICLE 3- (1) This directive is based on; This directive has been prepared in accordance with subparagraph (2) of paragraph (d) of the first clause of Article 7 and Article 14 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 dated 4.11.1981;
and the cooperation protocol signed on 14.12.2018 between our University and the Turkish Spastic Children's Foundation, in line with the decisions taken at the meeting No. 28 of the Maltepe University Senate on 21.11.2018.
Definitions
ARTICLE 4- (1) In this directive;
a) Unit: The Cerebral Palsy Academic Research Unit (CPAAB),
b) Advisory Board: The unit's advisory board,
c) Director: The unit director,
d) Board of Trustees: The Maltepe University Board of Trustees,
e) Project Groups: The unit's project groups,
e) Rector: The Rector of Maltepe University,
f) TSÇV: The Turkish Foundation for Spastic Children,
g) University: Maltepe University,
h) Management Board: The unit's management board.
PART TWO
Objectives, Fields of Activity and Activities of the Unit
Objectives of the Unit
ARTICLE 5- (1) The objectives of the Unit are as follows:
To examine groups with special needs from cultural, social, economic, medical, genetic and educational perspectives,
To compare the results obtained with world statistics,
To contribute to our country's studies on public health, general education and special education in this regard,
To play an active role in creating realistic social policies for individuals with Cerebral Palsy and their families,
To ensure the production, acquisition, development, dissemination of information about individuals with special needs and the transmission of this information to all segments of society,
To support the training, education and publication of scientists and students in the education and training stages who work in the field of disability,
To cooperate with national/international organizations in research areas. Areas of Activity
ARTICLE 6- (1) To achieve the objectives stated in Article 5 of this directive, the Unit shall conduct research/studies in the following areas of activity with an interdisciplinary approach:
a) Laboratory research,
b) Physiological research,
c) Genetic research,
d) Analysis of emerging disorders using modern methods and computer programs,
e) Anthropological research,
f) Cultural research,
g) Sociological research,
h) Psychological research,
i) Social psychological research,
j) Research in the context of special education and child development,
k) Medical research,
l) Studies on the socio-economic aspects and support of families of children with special needs from the perspective of the various disciplines mentioned,
m) Preventive studies and initiatives aimed at disseminating these studies to the community.
Activities
ARTICLE 7- (1)
To achieve its purpose, the Unit shall carry out the following activities:
Conducting research and applications in national and international contexts,
Publishing research results,
Organizing national and international congresses, symposia, seminars, conferences, and courses,
Organizing information meetings and vocational training courses for individuals with cerebral palsy and their families,
Preparing projects on disability and supporting researchers and university students within the scope of these projects,
Carrying out other studies and activities to be decided by the Board of Directors.
SECTION THREE
Management Bodies and Duties of the Unit, Project Groups
ARTICLE 8- (1) The organs of the Unit are:
a) Director,
b) Board of Directors
c) Academic Board.
Director
ARTICLE 9- (1) The Director is appointed by the Rector from among three full-time faculty members at the University for a term of three years. The Director whose term has expired may be reappointed. If the acting directorship lasts for more than six months, the Rector appoints a new Director. The Director is responsible to the Rector for the regular conduct and development of the Unit's activities.
(2) Upon the recommendation of the Director, a maximum of two faculty members may be appointed as Deputy Directors by the Rector. The Deputy Directors perform the duties assigned to them by the Director. When the Director is absent, he/she appoints one of the Deputy Directors as acting director.
Duties of the Director
ARTICLE 10- (1) The duties of the Director are as follows:
a) To represent the Unit,
b) To convene the Board of Directors, prepare the meeting agenda and attend the meeting
