In 2002, a cooperation protocol was signed between Maltepe University and the Turkish Foundation for Spastic Children (TSÇV). Through this protocol, university faculty members were registered by TSÇV to conduct research and practice at the Metin Sabancı Spastic Children's Education and Rehabilitation Center, and TSÇV staff members received scholarships to pursue their postgraduate studies.
Following the expiration of this initial protocol, they decided to expand the scope of their work with a new protocol to be signed in 2018. The Cerebral Palsy Academic Research Unit (CPAAB) was established as a unit under the Maltepe University Rectorate, in accordance with the decision taken at the Maltepe University Senate meeting on November 21, 2018, meeting number 28, and within the scope of the "Cooperation Protocol" signed between the University and the Turkish Foundation for Spastic Children (TSÇV).
On April 10, 2019, Dr. Handan Doğan, a faculty member from the Faculty of Education, was appointed as the director of the CPAAB. The Maltepe University administration has an academic board composed of university faculty members and members of the Turkish Society of Child Protection (TSÇV), as well as academic boards from Maltepe University, TSÇV, and various institutions, which will provide support through the opinions and suggestions of the university units.
Following the completion of the term in April 2022, a new administration board was formed and submitted to the Rectorate for approval. From June 2022 onwards, it was decided to re-form the administration and academic board, which are listed under the Rectorate, due to departures from their positions and changes in titles, and to submit them to the Maltepe University Rectorate for review and approval.
