Department of Journalism

In 2020, Maltepe University of Faculty of Communication, Journalism Department is accredited by İLEDAK (Communication Ethics Assessment Accreditation Board). In our globalizing world; keeping to the quality of individuals, inter-communal communication and interaction at the national and international levels. Hence, it was established with the awareness that the eligible communication has become compulsory.

With the acceleration of globalization, media's power becomes more important and analysis, news gathering, writing techniques of the news have completely changed within the politics- capital correlation. Accordingly, new concepts such as media criticism, public/ citizen journalism, media education and media literacy have mattered.

The definition of Journalists is described as follows; all press employees whose main source of livelihood, its main job that undertakes the task of receiving news, processing, transmitting, expressing opinions in printed, video, audio and electronic In the Journalism Department, besides the permanent faculty members, experienced experts who have made a name in the sector also give practical courses.

In our department, permanent and experienced teaching faculty members who are made a name in the industry, gives practical courses. The goal of the department is to train well- equipped students that can perform the above mentioned tasks; periodicals; will be able to work on topics such as journalists, page secretaries, editors, columnists, editors, also contributes to providing superior skills in social media.

In our department, besides theoretical and practical lessons, mandatory graduation projects, internship opportunities in our Journalism Workshop named after our late teacher, Master Journalist Nail Güreli, enable our students to become a competent press member. The student practice newspaper "Letter" in our faculty is an important indicator and supporter of our qualified and fully equipped education approach in this field.

Senior students of the journalism department defend their Graduation Projects in front of the Sector Jury consisting of experts from the media sector and have the opportunity to have an idea about what is expected from them in the process in which they are preparing to step into business life. It is a fact that these sector jury exams directly create job opportunities in coming years.

Graduates of this department are trained within the framework of ethical rules, in order to inform the society, as well as in the media and audio media institutions, especially in the news centers. In addition, our graduates can work in all local and national media organs, and can also work as press consultants in public or private institutions.


Mission
To raise journalists who are respectful to the ethical values, can think creatively and critically, who are innovative and have entrepreneurial spirit, possess societal responsibility, can use information technologies in an effective way in order to contribute to the democratic communication environment.

Vision
To become a department that is being preferred both in local and international level which can generate solutions to the contemporary problems of media in collaboration with the sector with an innovative mind-set in line with universal principles of democracy.
