Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine

Laboratories

The Student Laboratories of our faculty were re-established in February 2014 in the Maltepe Education Village Basic Medical Sciences building; five laboratories were established as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry/Microbiology, Histology/Pathology, Medical Biology and Biophysics Laboratories. The equipment and furnishings of each laboratory have been completed to meet the conditions set by the Council of Higher Education. A video training set was placed in each laboratory. Lockers were placed at the entrance of the laboratories so that students could put their books and other personal belongings.

General Entrance to Student Laboratories:

ANATOMY LABORATORY
This laboratory has been designed so that 40 students can practice anatomy at the same time.
Cadaver Laboratory: A laboratory with a pool in which two cadavers are stored.

Model Laboratory: Laboratory where models used in applications are protected.

Model Training Laboratory: The laboratory where the application is made on models.

Cadaver Training Laboratory: The laboratory where our students practice on cadavers.

BIOCHEMISTRY / MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY
This laboratory has been designed so that 38 students can practice biochemistry or microbiology at the same time. In addition to the laboratory where students can practice, there is a laboratory with a cold room and other necessary devices, a sterilization room and a room where chemical materials are protected. In these laboratories, our students prepare solutions for their experiments and gain the ability to use the devices used in other biochemistry measurements. The microbiology laboratory has a microscope suitable for the number of students.

PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY
This laboratory has been designed so that 35 students can practice physiology at the same time. The laboratory has 5 BIOPAC systems for electrophysiological recordings such as electrocardiography (ECG), electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG) and organ baths, and other devices such as sphygmomanometers and otoscopes used in physiology experiments.

HISTOLOGY / PATHOLOGY LABORATORY
This laboratory has been designed so that 44 students can practice histology or pathology at the same time. The laboratory was organized so that each student had a microscope. In this way, our students can use their time effectively during the practice.

MEDICAL BIOLOGY LABORATORY
This laboratory was designed to provide demonstration practice with 20 students at the same time. The laboratory has systems such as DNA extraction, PCR and electrophoresis.

MEDICAL SKILLS LABORATORY
In our skills laboratory, our students gain skills such as blood collection, intravenous, intramuscular injection, ECG, measuring heart pulse rate, respiratory rate and more advanced skills such as urinary catheter placement and resuscitation on models without direct contact with the patient.

PATIENT SIMULATION LABORATORY
Training rooms with people playing the role of patients. There are three simulation laboratories, arranged in the same way as the examination rooms in the hospital, with an examination table, a doctor's desk and a computer with the appropriate program installed for patient admission and processing.
