Meaningful Event Against Violence Towards Women: A Collaboration Between SOYAÇ and Yardım Konvoyu Association

In observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, Maltepe University’s SOYAÇ Center and the Yardım Konvoyu Association jointly organized an inclusive event. Held at the sewing workshop established by SOYAÇ and Yardım Konvoyu at the Mimar Sinan Temporary Living Center in Üçgedik Neighborhood, Antakya, the event featured the creation of a special poster and empowering awareness activities aimed at raising consciousness about gender-based violence.

Coordinated by the Yardım Konvoyu Association and supported by trainers from the Public Education Center, the sewing workshop had run for three months over the summer. As a result of these sessions, women from various age groups and backgrounds collaboratively crafted a handmade poster bearing the message: “Every Hope Stitched, Every Woman Empowered Heals Society.” This poster became a powerful symbol of the event. The initiative marked an important step toward expanding protection mechanisms against violence to include all women.

In addition, targeted efforts are being carried out to support the rehabilitation of adolescents at risk of delinquency and homelessness in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Representatives from the Yardım Konvoyu Association and SOYAÇ Center also announced plans for special events during the week of December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, focusing on women with disabilities. These efforts aim to protect and empower women from all segments of society, thereby preventing their dependent children and adolescents from being drawn into crime or life on the streets. By focusing on improving access to protection mechanisms for elderly and disabled women in particular, this approach contributes to the broader goal of “healing the entire society.”
