Inhabiting Anavatos Workshop

Inhabiting Anavatos International Architecture Workshop

Istanbul - Phrygian valley - Anavatos/Chios

August 29 - September 7, 2014

The international architectural workshop, organized by the Department of Architecture and Design of Maltepe University, started in Istanbul, leading to the Greek island of Chios after an educational journey through the old settlements and landscapes of the Phrygian valley and the ancient Ioanian and Roman cities.

In Chios, after this dense architectural experience, the students and tutors from Turkey, Italy and Greece worked on Anavatos -an abandoned, almost inaccesible fortified settlement on a steep rock formation, in the western part of the island.

The teams approached and interpreted this architectural artifact in different ways, thinking and working on possible scenarios of “inhabiting” this unique place.
