Nail Güreli was born in Istanbul on 13 February 1932. His full name is Ahmet Nail Güreli. He graduated from Kabataş Middle School. After leaving Kabataş High School, he transferred to Sultanahmet Boys’ Vocational School. He studied at the School of Journalism. Güreli began his literary career in 1950 with humorous writings published in Kahkaha magazine. After graduating from the School of Journalism, he began his professional journalism career as a reporter at Hizmet newspaper in 1952.

He worked for the newspapers Son Posta, Son Telgraf, Tan, Akşam, Vatan, İkdam, Hürriyet Haber Ajansı, Hürriyet, Güneş and Milliyet. He later wrote for Evrensel newspaper for a period. In 1959, he was chosen “Journalist of the Year.” He served at various levels within the Turkish Journalists’ Association and held the presidency from 18 March 1994 to 3 April 2001. He also held the Press Honor Card.

Nail Güreli received 12 awards in professional competitions and won the Turkish Language Association (TDK) interview award. In addition, he was deemed worthy of various awards given by several institutions, including the Orhan Apaydın Foundation Democracy and Peace Award and the Sertel Journalism Foundation Democracy Award. He passed away in 2016.
