(b. 15 January 1925, Istanbul – d. 21 February 2005, Istanbul)
Turkish philosophy professor and writer. He began primary school in Pendik and completed it at Büyükada Primary School. He graduated from the Latin Section of Galatasaray High School in 1944. In 1948, he completed his studies in the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University.
Nermi Uygur graduated from the University of Cologne, and in January 1950 he began working as a research assistant at Istanbul University. In 1952, he earned his doctorate with his dissertation “The Ontological Structure of the Cultural Sciences.” He became an associate professor in 1955 and a full professor in 1964. He was assigned to Germany, France, and Belgium, where he traveled by bicycle and conducted research on phenomenology. Upon returning to Turkey, he completed his associate professorship qualification with his study “The Ego of the Other in Husserl.”
